CLASS – FOUNDATIONS OF FREESTYLE AND MUSICAL MOVEMENT
This class offers a deep dive into the art of freestyle through the lens of rhythm, control, and creative exploration. Grounded in the foundational principles of floor work, footwork, house dance, and freestyle technique, the session is designed to help dancers develop a well-rounded and expressive movement language.
Suryaa draws from his extensive training across styles to create a class environment that is both technically rich and creatively liberating. The work begins by connecting you to gravity and resistance through floor-based movement, helping you develop full-body awareness and control across different levels. As you build this foundation, you’ll start to explore rhythm more intentionally—using footwork and musicality to tap into the structure and loops of house music, which guide the body into a natural, flowing groove.
Throughout the class, freestyle concepts are introduced gradually. The goal is to give you the tools to not only move freely, but also with intention. You’ll begin to understand how to weave together floor work and footwork into cohesive, rhythmic phrases that speak your unique movement language. The techniques taught here can translate into any style, whether you’re exploring contemporary, hip-hop, or battle-driven forms.
You’ll learn how to let go while still staying in rhythm, how to refine your freestyle with structure, and how to become more calculative and confident—whether you’re on stage, in a jam, or simply moving in your own space.
At its core, this is a class about connection: to music, to movement, and to the self. It’s an invitation to deepen your relationship with dance—and to discover how rhythm, control, and freedom can beautifully coexist.
