Ruki

Ruki is a former cognitive neuroscientist turned yoga educator, breath coach, and movement practitioner. Her work lives at the intersection of embodied movement, contemplative philosophy, and modern science, brought together with rigour, depth, and a sincere curiosity.

Movement has shaped her life from its earliest chapters. Introduced to swimming at just one year old to manage severe childhood asthma, she developed a foundational relationship with breath, endurance, and body awareness through water.

She spent most of her schooling years immersed in sport, constantly exploring different disciplines including tennis, hockey, and athletics before eventually finding her place in netball, going on to represent Singapore at national level from ages 14 to 18. These years as a competitive athlete forged a deep understanding of performance, coordination, resilience, and what it means to truly inhabit a moving body.

During her undergraduate years in London, she stumbled into her first yoga class, a Rocket-inspired practice that immediately captivated her. Breath synchronised to movement, upside down within the first twenty minutes, and playful transitions made the practice feel both physically exhilarating and deeply absorbing. What began as movement quickly opened into something far greater: a new way of understanding the relationship between mind, brain, body, breath, and awareness.

After completing a first-class MSc in Neuroscience at King’s College London, she worked as a researcher exploring altered states of consciousness; hypnosis, psychosis, hallucinations, and spiritual mediumship. Alongside her academic life, she accumulated over 2500 hours of training across Hatha, Ashtanga, and Rocket yoga, yogic philosophy, psychology, and somatic therapy.

In 2023, she left the UK to travel extensively across India in pursuit of deeper experiential study. Today she is based in Mysore, where she continues to study, practise, and teach. Her movement practice continues to evolve through hand balancing, mobility training, animal flow, and ongoing inspiration drawn from capoeira, qigong, and other embodied movement disciplines. Breath remains a central thread, she holds advanced training in breath physiology, functional breathing, nervous system regulation, and sleep science, from Oxygen Advantage and School of Breath Science.

Ruki teaches internationally across workshops, retreats, and teacher trainings in India and London. She is the founder of KALKI Institute, an educational platform exploring the meeting point of ancient yogic wisdom, modern neuroscience, and embodied practice. Her work can also be found on Jnana, an app featuring teachings from some of India’s leading wisdom teachers.

CLASS

Ruki’s classes approach yoga as an embodied practice of movement, awareness, breath, and self-inquiry, blending dynamic physical exploration with contemplative practices that cultivate presence, adaptability, and deeper connection to the mind, body and soul.

Through her signature KALKI methodology, Ruki offers nervous system informed classes that integrate inversion work, locomotion, mobility training, and brain-based movement drills. These practices challenge proprioception, vestibular awareness, coordination, visual processing, and balance, intentionally introducing novelty and unpredictability to enhance the brain’s ability to predict, adapt, and respond.

Alongside physically challenging movement, equal emphasis is placed on stillness and deep restoration. Breathwork, meditation, and somatic practices are thoughtfully integrated throughout, deepening interoceptive awareness, supporting nervous system regulation, and creating space for grounding, healing, and recovery amidst the intensity of immersive movement experiences.

Ruki also teaches 4BEAT Yoga; a rhythm-based dynamic vinyasa practice built around breath, music, and flow state. Synchronising movement to a slow, steady beat, these sessions become deeply immersive moving meditations that cultivate coordination, focus, and complete absorption in the present moment.
