A space to move — A space for play
Kalakeli is a Sanskrit term meaning ‘playful arts’.
Playful as expressing pleasure and amusement. Art as the expression of human creative skill and imagination.
Kalakeli offers residencies and intensive training programmes in a space where you ‘play’ with ‘art’ and put ‘art’ at ‘play’.
Movement is sacred and words can often be misinterpreted, but the body never lies. That’s why Kalakeli is MOVEMENT arts.
At Kalakeli it doesn’t matter which country you are from, what your favourite art form is or what your religious beliefs are.
What matters to us is for you to realise that:
We all fall asleep under the same moon,
We all breathe the same air,
When we jump into the water we all get wet,
When we put our hands into the fire we all get burnt.
We all have different political opinions.
We all have a different sexual orientation.
We are all so different in many directions!
Kalakeli is a space for union.
We can loose time pointing out our differences or we can work to acknowledge our timeless commonness.
If we focus on the noise of the tree that falls we miss the beauty in the silence of the jungle that grows.
Kalakeli is no one, nowhere, doing nothing.
It is all happening.

Kalakeli is an incredible experience of movement, community, and nature in a beautiful location with beautiful humans. It is a place for people with many different backgrounds to share space learning various forms of movement. It will give you a new perspective on life, dance, and yourself!
Kalakeli is a fantastic project allowing for a deep-dive into diverse forms of movement arts. The quality of the teaching is top-notch, with world-renowned dance and movement teachers sharing their experience and techniques in an informal learning environment. This 1-3 month programme is a unique opportunity to practice movement arts along with amateur and professional dancers, actors, martial art practitioners, and other movers. The learning environment is highly satisfying for dancers with lots of experience, yet highly supportive of those with less experience. The perfect place to rediscover your body, open your mind, explore new practices, grow as a person, and be part of a warm community of movers. Navala and Micka, who imagined and created Kalakeli, are two fantastic and warm-hearted human beings that you can trust at 100%
Kalakeli Movements arts is sublime and the work they do to support and inspire their participants and collaborators is divine. As a teacher in the residency, I had the privilege to work with fascinating, interesting artists and people from across the world! It was a gift to be part of an experience that was so enriching, inspiring and full of kindness, compassion and love. There is a real sense of community that is created in the residency and I have made genuine and authentic connections with everyone I came in contact with. The curation of the residency is brilliant and a great deal of thought, care, love and energy has been invested to make sure the whole experience in and out of the studio is outstanding! I look forward to the next edition and all the creativity, love, joy and inspiration that comes with it. I hope to see you there!
